Another public holiday is coming up in the UAE, and we’re already looking forward to having some days off. We’ll get another UAE public holiday soon and are excited about it. Eid Al Adha and Arafat Day will mean we get four days off in June. Eid Al Adha and other public holidays in Muslim countries shift around the calendar because they depend on the Islamic Hijri calendar. In contrast to the Gregorian calendar used by most, the Islamic calendar follows the moon’s phases.
The months of the Hijri calendar all have either 29 or 30 days. Each month’s length cannot be predicted until the 29th day and depends on whether the crescent moon is visible. It is not celebrated on the first of a new month like the Islamic New Year and Eid Al Fitr. So we will know when it begins about a week earlier. Arafat Day starts on 9 Dhu Al Hijjah. Eid Al Adha holidays in Dubai last through Dhu Al Hijjah 10, 11, and 12.

History of Eid Al Adha
Eid Al Adha is a festival that Muslims celebrate for three to four days. Most Muslims join special prayers held in major mosques and Islamic centres across the UAE and worldwide. They also get dressed in new garments and often exchange gifts. No school is held for children (or college students) on a holiday, and most adults don’t attend work.
Our traditions honour Eid al Adha because the Prophet Muhammad said Ibrahim started the practice. As we remember when God instructed Prophet Ibrahim in a dream to sacrifice his son Ismail. While the sacrifice occurred, the Angel Jibrail came from God with a massive ram. Jibrail told Ibrahim that the vision he saw in the dream had come true and told him the ram was to be sacrificed to save his son. The Holy Quran describes this story in Chapter 37. On Eid al Adha, Muslims celebrate the culmination of the Hajj, or Pilgrimage ritual, the fifth pillar of Islam.
Arafat Day 2025
Nothing makes Dubai residents happier than a public holiday. We will get four lovely days off in June as Arafat Day and Eid Al Adha coincide closely. Eid Al Adha holidays UAE begin on the day after Arafat Day. It’s worth noting why Dubai and the whole UAE observe this holiday as a day off every year before the extended break.
What Does Arafat Day Stand for?
Everywhere, Muslims give great importance to the Day of Arafah. It happens on the ninth day of Dhu Al Hijjah, thirty days after Ramadan and only one day before Eid Al Adha. To observe Arafat Day, we recognise that stage of the Hajj and come together to offer prayers and ask for blessings.
Near the area of Mount Arafat, everyone dons white clothing before joining in prayer and quiet reflection. Many believe that every prayer recited during Arafat Day reaches its goal. People outside the Muslim community can embrace professional values honoured on Arafat Day. The principles I mentioned are about loving, forgiving, and being equal. Muslims recognise that fasting on this day provides excellent benefits and blessings. Ramadan encourages people to slow their eating and drinking to focus on their faith better.
Eid Al Adha in 2025
Dhu Al Hijjah started on April 29. Eid Al Adha will be observed starting on Thursday, June 5, and ending on Sunday, June 8. But if it lasts only 30 days, Wednesday, May 28, will mark its close. So, Dhu Al Hijjah 9 and the first four days of Eid Al Adha land on Friday, June 6, ending Monday, June 9, when the holiday ends.
Muslims in the UAE come together with their families, feast, and have fun. Community members now focus on giving away gifts and donating to good causes. Most times, Muslims gather with their families at the beginning of Eid. Eid Al Adha holidays in the UAE are filled with fireworks displays, shows, and various activities.

Eid Al-Adha Hajj Takbeer
The Takbeerat al-Tashreeq is for Eid Al-Adha Hajj takbeer and people say it to Allah, from before sunrise on the 9th day of Dhul Hijjah, Day of Arafah, to when the end of the 13th day of Dhul Hijjah has passed. The verse is often sung right after every required prayer and runs something like this:
The Takbir al-Tashreeq, said in Arabic, is:
“Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, la ilaha illa Allahu, wa Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillahi al-hamd.”
Understanding What Takbir al-Tashreeq Means
An analysis of the translation indicates that every phrase included in the Takbir al-Tashreeq is meaningful. “Allah is the Greatest” is a way to honour Allah’s unmatched might, power, and exalted place. It is repeatedly said to remind people of Allah’s position above all things. This statement is meant to emphasise that Islam’s belief system is monotheistic. The last sentence of the prayer highlights that all forms of gratitude and praise should go to Allah (SWT) and Him alone. Consequently, the prayer reminds us of Allah’s glory and all believers’ faith in One God.

Facts About Eid al-Adha Prayers
- People usually take baths, showers, or wear new outfits on the morning of Eid.
- Performing the ablution and then performing the Fajr prayer.
- Keeping things extra clean.
- Celebrating the day by wearing new and beautiful clothing.
Muslim men and women are required to pray together after fajr on Eid. Eid prayers are held in groups outside a special space or a mosque, but they are permitted to pray from home.
Animal Sacrifice
Following the end of Eid Al Adha prayers, Muslims sacrifice a cow, goat, camel, sheep, or buffalo. The Islamic rules require every healthy and easily affording adult to perform a sacrifice on this day. The animal can be male, female, or gelded, but the person making the offering must still observe the rules. Always keep in mind that the sacrificial animal should be:
- As they become older, a certain age (different ages for each animal).
- Exceptionally free from disability.
- In good health.
Many people in Dubai use Qurbani services to fulfil their Islamic duty. Following the sacrifice, meat from the carcass is divided among the devotees in three parts. One share stays with the family, some is set aside for near relatives, and the rest goes to those in need.
